Substance Misuse/Prevention Resources
The United States is currently experiencing an opioid overdose epidemic, as drug overdose deaths have become a leading cause of injury and death, with recent estimates reporting that 115 Americans die each day from drug overdose. The Hales in Corners Health Department, in collaboration with the Greendale Health Department, have formed a coalition called Community Alliance to fight this epidemic. Community Alliance: Hales Corners and Greendale Communities (Community Alliance) was formed in the fall of 2017 after Community Health Improvement Planning (CHIP) processes in both communities revealed shocking increases in adult binge drinking and opioid-related hospitalizations and deaths, electronic cigarette use and an increase in youth marijuana use.
